Homemade Play Doh

Homemade Play Doh

Thanksgiving is coming! You will probably be spending some time in your kitchen in the next week and this quick and easy play dough recipe is perfect to keep your little ones happy while you bake (bonus- you probably have most of the ingredients on hand already).  We love this recipe because it is fast and easy and provides hours of fun!

Ingredients:

2 tbs. cooking oil

4 tbs. cream of tartar

2 cups of flour

1 cup of salt

2 cups of water

Grown up work: Cook on the stove top over medium heat while mixing continuously until it begins to thicken. Place onto wax paper to cool. You can always add a little oil if too dry or a little flour if too wet feeling. Once cooled, add drops of food coloring  to the dough.

Kid work: squish and squeeze until the color mixes into the dough.

*Insider tips:

It is sometimes easier to stir if you make half a batch at a time. Stores nicely in plastic baggies in the fridge to make it last longer.

Now it’s ime to get creative! Give your kiddos some dry beans or corn to poke and hide inside the dough, or add some feathers and make a turkey. Break out the rolling pin and use cookie cutters to create fun shapes. Thanksgiving spices like pumpkin or extracts like vanilla are also fun additions to play-dough for smelly fun!

Provide adult supervision for children who may mouth or eat.
