How to Make Rainbow Rice “Sprinkles”

How to Make Rainbow Rice “Sprinkles”

Kids love mixing sweet treats into play. It’s bright, fun, and always feels like a celebration! Here is a quick and easy way you can make rainbow rice or “Sprinkles” at home and get your little one involved.

Materials:

  • Rice
  • Food Coloring
  • ZipLock Bags
  • Vinegar
  • Measuring spoon

Scoop rice in individual bags for each desired color. We used ~1/2 cup of rice in each bag. Drop in a few drops of food coloring and add ~1/2-1 Teaspoon of vinegar to help spread the color around.

Your little one can help with scooping/pouring. Use a big bowl as pictured for spills. Your child can also help with smushing or shaking the bag to spread colors around.

Divide rice into paper plates and allow to dry. We sat our rice in the sun for a few hours and this seemed to help the color stick.

Your kiddo can stir all the colors up or you can divide them up into sections for play-dough or craft projects. We love using rainbow rice for sensory bins, decorating play-dough cookies, or mixing them up to make Funfetti Play Dough!
