When it comes to teaching pre-writing skills, our biggest tip is to keep it light and fun! This week we had some pre-writing fun with nature, using our preschool curriculum by KidsPlayTricks.
The Nature Unit in this preschool curriculum provides the printables you see in the pictures. We printed and laminated to make them more durable.
Play-Based Learning
To keep this playful we provided a few fun materials:
- Corn Kernels
- Black Beans
- Fun Animal Pasta
- Play Dough
- Dry Erase Markers
We practiced lining up corn and beans along the lines, working on fine motor and visual motor skills.
Tracing doesn’t have to be with a writing implement! Watch a silly Coco use her snack (a veggie straw) to trace circles.
Another way to practice tracing is to trace with your pointer finger, or encourage your kiddo to “erase” the dry erase marker marks.
Play Dough is always a hit! Coco practiced putting dry materials along a squishy play dough line.
