Purposeful Play with Apps!

Purposeful Play with Apps!

Turn screen time into meaningful play by using apps that encourage social interactions!

A couple of our favorites are Toca Birthday Party and Toca Tea Party from @tocaboca. Using these engaging apps during play with others presents natural opportunities for children to build vocabulary and practice skills like taking turns, following and giving directions, asking and answering questions, and problem solving. You can even play with family and friends via video chat!

Insider tip: to increase language opportunities and make these apps even more interactive, assign each person a “job” (e.g., the “cake server” or the “drink pourer”). This prompts little ones to request and describe their desired items!

*We recommend referring to suggestions from the APA when considering children’s use of screen media.
